Safety wheel chock
Electronic ratchet wheel chock secures loading process
Without an HGV safety system in place, there is a considerable risk of loading and unloading personnel falling, as the HGV can unintentionally leave the docking area. With the BUTT safety wheel chock, the operator working in the loading zone is informed optically and/or acoustically of the missing safety device.
Electric wheel chock with contactless sensor as HGV immobiliser, with spiral cable and warning horn, in aluminium design. The wheel chock has a toothed strip of high-strength special steel on the base. The wheel chock is positioned on a galvanised base plate with welded-in cross profiles. The door/dock leveller is only released when the wheel chock is applied. This is indicated by a green LED light on the wheel chock. If the wheel chock is removed when the door is still open or the dock leveller is in operation, an acoustic warning horn sounds.
Accidents, some of them serious, repeatedly occur during the loading and unloading of HGVs because vehicles are inadequately secured against rolling, or not secured at all. An electronic wheel chock system with integrated forced control from BUTT rectifies this situation and makes loading and unloading safe. The Employer's Liability Insurance Association stipulates that the vehicles at the loading point must be secured against rolling away. In practical terms, most drivers consider an applied handbrake to mean that their duty has been fulfilled. For support, a simple wheel chock is sometimes placed in front of a wheel, which means that rolling away is not normally possible.
However, there is a great risk to the forklift truck carrying out the loading or unloading if the driver of the HGV considers operations to be complete, removes the wheel chock and drives away, even though a pallet might still be being driven in. In this case, the forklift truck including the driver will fall into the resulting gap between the HGV and yard ramp. In addition to material damage, these accidents usually result in serious injury to the forklift driver.
The electrical BUTT safety wheel chock with contactless sensor offers a high degree of safety at comparatively low cost. With the help of an integrated forced control between dock leveller and wheel chock, the system minimises employee mistakes. In addition, the secured ratchet system on the contact surface of the chock as well as its special dimensions practically exclude slipping and driving over. The corresponding control system can be combined with almost any type of leveller and retrofitted with little effort. Another special feature of this system is that both HGV drivers on the outside of the building and loading personnel inside receive a visual and acoustic control signal.
